For The Highland Park Review

Sunrise or Sunset on Optimist Lake? You’ll decide.

Remember: My original complaint as a concerned waterkeeper was the dewatering of Lake Optimist without a permit. On multiple occasions in 2019, random persons from Lake View West Subdivision (they call themselves Lakeview West Estates) came to Highland Park Subdivision to open the standpipe dewatering the lake and killing all the wildlife in the area further damaging the dam and spillway until it finally collapsed in 2021. The pushback against me voicing to uphold the law under The Clean Water Act of 1972 and save the animals was unconscionable. A smear campaign by these same actors was launched against me, the dewatering continued despite the objections, and all the animals were killed anyway as the HOA conflagrates continued their march against the lake land until their actions ultimately laid waste to the lake and all her creatures who lived there.

So what now? We’re all in for some big and perhaps unpleasant surprises if we don’t understand our responsibilities to these 25 acres. Please watch for the mailing coming to your mailbox. I hope to have it out before Thanksgiving. I am waiting for one legal analysis to come before then. Until then we wait. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Sincerely, Sherry Lynn Gros, President, Highland Park Community Association
